Privacy policy

Applies to the Noturna website, the quiz funnel and the Noturna app.

The short version

Noturna is local-first. Your recordings, transcripts and notes stay on your device. We do not have an account system, we do not run analytics, and we do not sell or train models on your content.

What is stored on your device

• noturna.notes.v1 — your notes, transcripts and summaries.
• noturna.settings.v1 — your provider, model, language and theme choice.
• noturna.funnel.v1 — your quiz answers, if you took the quiz.
• noturna.entitlements.v1 — whether Pro is unlocked on this device.

All of it lives in your browser's local storage on your device. Clearing site data removes it permanently, which is why the app offers JSON export.

When data leaves your device

• Audio and transcripts are sent to an AI provider only when you press a button that requires it (for example “Summarise with AI” or “Transcribe with Whisper”), and only to the provider you configured with your own key.
• Your API key is stored in this browser and sent to that provider with each request. If you route requests through the bundled local proxy, the key passes through that proxy on your own machine.
• Email address, if you enter one in the quiz, is used to send the resource you asked for and, if you opt in, occasional product email. It is never sold.
• Payments are handled by our payment processor (for example Stripe). We never see or store your card details.

Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR)

We rely on contract to provide the service you asked for, legitimate interests to keep it secure and working, and consent for marketing email — which you can withdraw at any time.

Retention

Device data is retained until you delete it. Email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, plus the period required for tax records where a purchase was made.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict and port your data, and to object to processing. Because notes are stored on your device, you can exercise most of these directly in the app (Settings → Data → Export / Clear). For anything else, contact hello@noturna.app. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Children

Noturna is not directed at anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Terms of service

1. Agreement

By using Noturna you agree to these terms with Noturna Labs Ltd. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. What you are licensed

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Noturna for your own purposes. You may use it commercially to take and organise your own notes.

3. Acceptable use

• Do not record people where the law where you are requires their consent.
• Do not use Noturna to break the law, infringe rights, or harass anyone.
• Do not attempt to sell access to our hosted service as your own without a written reseller agreement.
• Do not upload malware or attempt to disrupt the service.

4. Your content

You own your recordings, transcripts and notes. We claim no licence over them. You are responsible for having the right to record and process them.

5. AI output

Summaries and insights are generated by third-party language models and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. They are notes, not advice. Check anything important before you act on it.

6. Availability and changes

The app is provided as-is. We may change or discontinue features. Where a change materially reduces what you paid for, we will offer a remedy under the refund policy.

7. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.

Refund policy

If Noturna Pro isn't right for you, email us within 30 days of purchase and we will refund you in full — no questions, no forms. Refunds are made to the original payment method, usually within five working days.

If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, you also have statutory cancellation rights for digital content. By asking us to unlock Pro immediately, you acknowledge that the cancellation period ends on delivery — but our 30-day promise sits on top of that and is the one we will actually honour.

We may refuse a refund where there is evidence of abuse, such as repeated purchase-and-refund cycles or resale of access.

Purchase terms

One-time payment

Noturna Pro is a single payment for lifetime access to the Pro features on the account or device it was bought for. It is not a subscription and it does not renew. There is nothing to cancel.

What “lifetime” means

It means for as long as Noturna continues to operate and the Pro features exist. If we ever shut the service down, we will give at least 90 days' notice and, where practical, export tooling so you keep your data.

Prices and tax

Prices are shown in the currency at checkout. Where VAT or sales tax applies, it is added or included as indicated at checkout. Promotional prices are honoured for the duration stated at the time of purchase.

Delivery

Pro is unlocked digitally immediately after payment. Nothing is shipped.

Payment processing

Payments are processed by a third-party provider. Their terms and privacy policy also apply to the transaction.
